To determine the best 5th wheel trailer to gooseneck hitch adapter you will need, there are some measurements you can take in addition to knowing the pin weight and gross trailer weight of the trailer, loaded and ready to tow.
First, back your truck into position as if you were hooking up your fifth-wheel trailer, making sure that the truck and trailer are level. Then, measure from the pin plate (the bottom of the pin box) down to the top of the ball in the bed of your truck. This distance is the height of the adapter you will need.
I recommend the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter, # AM3100, because it is height adjustable from 11-3/4 inches to 14-3/4 inches, and it has a pin weight capacity of 6,000 pounds, gross trailer weight capacity of 24,000 pounds.
If you have a short bed truck, I recommend the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter w/8 Inch Offset, # AM3139. This adapter has the same specs as the adapter listed above but it also features an 8 inch offset for more clearance between the trailer and truck cab.
For either adapter, I recommend adding the Safety Chains for Ranch Hitches, # AM3109.
