How To Route 4-Way Connector To Connect To 7-Way of part # ETBC7 on 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE

Question:

Im adding a brake controller to my 2005 Toyota Sienna XLE and would like to know the best method for connecting it to the existing 4-wire. The existing 4-wire is supplied by part number 118304 currently mounted in the jack compartment on the passenger side of the vehicle. I have part number ETBC7 on order to hook up the brake controller and 7-wire. In order to connect the 118304 to the ETBC7, is it standard practice to route it out of the rear door as needed, or should it be permanently routed outside of the vehicle so it can stay connected to the 7-wire kit? If it should be permanently routed, can you tell me a good opening to route it through?

If you can find a rubber grommet in the lower cargo or spare tire area, I would recommend running the 4-way connector through the grommet and then connect to the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. To do this you can temporarily remove the grommet and pull the connector through. Then, you will cut a small slit in the grommet for the wire to pass through, then seal the cut in the grommet with silicone.

To complete the installation of the ETBC7 you will connect the remaining wires. The White wire is the ground wire and will be connected to your vehicles frame. The Black wire will be connected to the Black wire of the duplex cable, and will run up to the front of the vehicle, and connected to a 40 amp circuit breaker then to the battery. The Blue wire on part # ETBC7 will be connected to the White wire inside the Black duplex cable and will be connected to the Blue wire coming from the back of the brake controller.

Then to complete installation of your brake controller, you will connect the wires on the back of the brake controller. The White wire will be connected to the negative battery terminal. The Black wire will be connected to the positive battery terminal via 40-amp circuit breaker. The Blue wire will connect to the White Duplex wire. The Red wire will be connected to the stoplight switch near the brake pedal. The stoplight switch will be the wire that only carries signal when the brake pedal is pressed. You will want to use a circuit tester, part # PTW2993 to test for this wire.

I have linked an FAQ on installing brake controllers and an FAQ on Brake Controller 7- & 4-Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7, that you may find as a good reference. I have also linked a picture diagram showing the connections needed to be made for brake controller.
