What would be the Best Option for an Axle to Install on a Small Trailer Frame

Question:

I inherited a small trailer frame with leaf springs but no axle. I know the frame is 41 inches wide x 60 inches in lenght and the leaf springs measure about 39.5 inches center to center. I want to install 15 inch tires on 4.5 x 5 hubs, what should my hub to hub and overall length measure?

I have a solution for you. However, with the 41 inch frame width, finding a one piece straight axle to fit this measurement will be difficult.

I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System, # ASR400S02. The Timbren axle-less system will mount to the frame of your trailer and will give you additional clearance under the center of your trailer.

This system will replace the need for the leaf spring suspension. The Timbren system uses Aeon rubber springs that are will provide a smooth ride while delivering excellent load stability.

I recommend using the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly, # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K, for the hubs on the Timbren axles. These hubs will allow you to installed your 15 inch wheel with the 5 on 4-1/2 inch wheel bolt pattern. This hub will include bearings, races (already installed), grease seal, and new lugs.

I also recommend using # L11465 wheel bearing grease, # L30200 grease gun if you do not already have one, and # L70025 LubriMatic Bearing Packer when installing these hubs on to the Timbren axle-less suspension system.

I have attached a couple of review videos on these products for you to view for more information.
