Installing Brake Controller in 2006 Chevy Express Van
Question:
I am trying to install Tekonsha Prodigy P3 in 2006 chevy express 3500. There is an empty fusible link slot at position 50 that is labelled trailer. The van came with the wiring harness for a controller. I have been pulling a boat using the 7 pin connector hydraulic brakes and everything is working. Do I need to put a fuse in this for the brake controller? Thanks,

Expert Reply:
2006 Chevy Express Vans with the 7-Way tow package have the blue output brake wire already ran from the back to the front. It is located under the dash near the emergency brake pedal. If you find that wire and insert a fuse into the fuse slot of your van this controller will fit and work well.
To power the controller you would want to use the kit part # 5506 which is a double bonded wire with a circuit breaker that gets rans to the vehicle battery.
The red wire gets ran to the stoplight circuit of your brake pedal wiring as well. Use a circuit tester to test the wires there for one that sees voltage only when the brakes are applied.
If you have hydraulic surge brakes on your trailer though you would not need to install a brake controller.
