Recommended Yakima Crossbars for 2016 Maza CX-5

Question:

Yakima corebar vs. jetstream - seems like the towers secure better to the jetstream vs. wrap around strap with the corebar? But corebar load capacity is higher. Which do you recommend? We have a 2016 Mazda CX-5 with factory raised rails and will use Yakima Timberline towers.

Both the Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00425 and CoreBar Crossbars # Y00421 are great aero-style bars that are confirmed to work with TimberLine Towers # Y33TR on your 2016 Mazda CX-5.

These are two very similar crossbar designs, and partly because of this, I recommend going with the more economically priced CoreBars # Y00421. The aerodynamic design and teardrop shape on these bars will help to create a quiet roof rack system and reduce wind drag to maintain fuel efficiency.

As you mentioned in your question, the weight capacity on these bars is higher than the JetStream Model at 220 pounds. I recommend checking the weight capacity of the roof on your Mazda as listed in the owner's manual, as this will likely be the limiting factor. Even assuming that you will need to stay under the capacity of the roof itself, it is still nice to have a more durable, higher rated crossbar system to secure your belongings. These bars will attach to the TimberLine Towers using the included brackets and will provide a tight and secure mount.

I have attached the installation details of this rack as well as a demonstration video on a 2013 CX-5 for you to check out.
