Recommendation on a Weight Distribution System With Sway Control to be Used on a Horse Trailer
Question:
Hello, I have a question about a weight distribution kits with sway control. I have a horse trailer that has less than 18inch of ground clearance with an estimate tongue weight of 650 lbs. I was considering the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW My concern is that since this is rated much higher than my trailer weight that the ride will be too bumpy. Would you recommend this product or another product. Im interested in WDH with built in sway control that I can back with. Thank you

When trying to decide on a proper weight distribution (WD) system for your towing rig, you will need to know the total tongue weight of your set-up. The total tongue weight will be a fully loaded ready to tow trailer, plus any weight located behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. You want to use a system where your total tongue weight will fall in between the WD system's tongue weight range.
Once you have found your total tongue weight, you will be able to decided on the correct system for your towing application.
With that said, a system like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution, # EQ37100ET, will give you better ground clearance than some of the other style that use chain hangers or the Reese Dual Cam design like # RP66084. The straight friction bars on the Equal-i-zer system run more parallel to the trailer's frame and do not hang as far down as other systems but lack some of the adjustability.
I have attached a link that will tack you to the product page of our weight distribution systems. Once you find your total tongue weight you can choose the correct tongue weight from the list of systems.
I also have attached two help articles that for you to review. One is on how to determine the correct weight distribution system and the other explains how to find the total tongue weight of your trailer and tow vehicle.
