Weight Distribution, Hitch and Wiring Recommendation for 2003 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

Im trying to figure out what I need to safely tow the above with my 4runner. Do I need sway control and load distribution bars, and if so, which products? Also, what is the best wiring assembly for lights/blinkers for this set up? I am new to all of this and want to get is all set up appropriately and safely. Thank you for your patience and expertise.

We recommend using a weight distribution system when the trailer weighs 50 percent or more of the vehicle weight or if the rear of the vehicle is sagging. I have included a link to our FAQ article on weight distribution for you to view.

The trailer hitches for your 2003 Toyota 4Runner like the # 75155 have capacities of 6000 lbs trailer weight so if you need a WD system the Reese Strait Line part # RP66082 which has a tongue weight range of 200-600 lbs would be the best.

For a 2 inch ball you would want part # A-90 and for a 2-5/16 inch ball # 19286.

You will need to start with a 4-way (if you do not have one). For that you would want the # 119178KIT.

From there you would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup.
