Brake Lights on Toad Do not Work After Installing Hopkins
Question:
I tow a 2009 Saturn Vue behind my motorhome. It has a six pin connection. I purchased a Hopkins Custom Tail Light Wiring Kit HM56303 kit and installed it. Following wiring directions from your web site, I wired the final plug into a six pin connector. I must have done it wrong because everything works but my brake lights. How do I fix it?

On 4-pole, 6-pole and 7-pole wiring setups the stop and turn signals are combined for each side of the vehicle. The green wire in a 4-pole typically carries both right turn and stop signals and the yellow wire carries left turn and stop. On a 6-pole the two pins at the bottom of the socket and plug again carry combined stop/turn signals. This arrangement of wires and functions is shown in the linked article on wiring.
I suggest you check the 6-pole socket on the MH to see if the brake signals are making it that far. If you have a circuit tester like # PTW2993 you can apply it to the bottom two pins on the socket to see of the brake signals are present there. You will need a helper to engage the brakes on the MH while you test.
You can also check the condition of the electrical contacts within each of the connectors that plug in at the car taillights. If the pins are bent or are otherwise not making solid contact with the mating pins on the vehicle side, then this could interrupt the signal.
