Recommended Trailer Hitch And Wiring For 2009 Mazda 3
Question:
Im looking to tow a 5x8 cargo trailer for 2009 Mazda 3 Hatchback. I spoke to a U-haul representative and they said in addition to the hitch: 24816 I would also need a 2in hitch ball. Would this work? A-90. I want to make sure I get everything I need and that its all compatible. Please let me know if I need different or additional items. Thanks!

The Draw-Tite Sport frame Trailer Hitch # 24816 is a confirmed fit for your 2009 Mazda 3. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening.
You will need a ball mount like part # 3592 that the hitch ball mounts on. This ball mount has a 2-1/8 inch rise or 2-3/4 inch drop and comes with the hitch pin and clip. This ball mount requires a hitch ball with a shank that is 3/4 inches diameter so the # A-90 hitch ball will not work as it is 1-1/4 inches.
For a hitch ball you will need either part # 19258 for a 2-inch ball or part # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. The shank for these hitch balls is 3/4-inches diameter which is what the ball mount requires.
Since it sounds like you are towing a trailer, you will need a trailer connector on your Mazda. If you do not have the Grand Touring LED Tail Light Package I recommend part # 118420. If you do have the Grand Touring package the trailer harness I recommend is part # 46255.
