Minimizing Bounce and Porpoising with 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 That Has Air Springs and WD System  

Question:

I have a 2016 GMC 1500 max tow package up to 11700. Pulling coachmen last toy hauler 27 ft box 30 to tougue. Away and pulling power ok. But cement roads ,bridges you can get a lot of bounce. Normally run 60 to 65 miles per hour. Also have air springs added to truck.what do you do, adjusted Equalizer hitch, played with air press still not satisfied ?

There are a couple of things I recommend looking at for trying to minimize the porpoising you are experiencing when towing the toy hauler behind your 2016 GMC Sierra 1500.

First, I recommend making sure the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System is rated properly for the total tongue weight of your setup. Keep in mind that the total tongue weight will include both the loaded tongue weight of the trailer and also any added weight behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. If your total tongue weight is at or exceeding the maximum capacity of the weight distribution system, this can cause the bounce you are experiencing. Ideally, you will want your total tongue weight to fall somewhere around the middle of a weight distribution system's weight capacity range. For example, a total tongue weight of 8,000 pounds would be perfect for the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET that has a tongue weight capacity range of 600 to 1,000 pounds.

If the weight distribution system is properly rated for your towing setup, then I recommend deflating the air bags in your Sierra 1500 to their lowest setting. You can then inflate them a bit just based on the ride from there, but with a properly rated weight distribution system, the air springs should not need to be inflated too much to eliminate porpoising.
