The 2016 and 2017 Mazda CX-9 models both use the same trailer hitch receivers and wiring harnesses.
Both the Draw-Tite # 76020 and the Curt # C13284 Class III trailer hitch receivers are pretty hidden. But the Draw-Tite seems a little less obvious because there's a little less of the hitch hanging below the bumper. I've linked install videos of both of them for you.
There isn't a 7-way trailer connector that plugs into the CX-9's wiring. However, we do have the parts for you to install one. First you'll need a 4-way connector, if you don't already have one.
If your Mazda has the tow package but no connector use # 118278. This plugs into a harness inside the vehicle's rear cargo area behind a threshold plate and interior panel. If you don't have the tow package then use # C59496 which will hardwire into the Mazda's wiring. I've linked videos of both harnesses being installed as well.
Once you have a 4-way connector, or if you already have one, use our # ETBC7 kit for a fully functioning 7-way connector. This will include the 7-way connector and everything you'll need to install an electric brake controller. If you don't need the 7-way for any functions other than lights on your trailer use # 37185 instead and cap off the unused wires.
I've included links to some articles you may find helpful as well.
