7-Way Trailer Connector Wiring Harness for a 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L
Question:
Hi Im buying a 2017 Honda Pilot EX-L and want to make sure I install the correct tow wiring for it. I have a tekonsha brake controller and harness already from an older Honda Pilot. I am towing a 2500lb tent trailer that has trailer brakes I plan to order the etrailer hitch e98840 For wiring I plan to order the Tekonsha 7-way trailer connector item#118286 Besides the one plug that plugs into the factory harness on the rear side are there any other wires that need to be connected or run to enable the brake controller and extra +12V lead? Thank You

For trailer wiring harness # 118286 for your 2017 Honda Pilot you would not need to add any additional wiring or run any extra wires. It comes with everything needed to make the 7-Way fully functional. To attach the 7-Way to hitch # e98840 I recommend bracket # PK12711U.
If you ever want to get a new brake controller, I recommend the P2 # 90885 because it is easy to set up and use and it is reliable. You will also need wiring harness # 3070-P to plug the controller into your Pilot if the harness you have is a different part number. This harness fits Tekonsha brake controllers and the 2009 to 2017 Pilots.
Since you plan on doing some towing I also recommend etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
