Recommended Weight Distribution System to Tow 5,000 Pound Trailer with 2016 GMC Canyon
Question:
I am looking for suggestions on a weight distributing/ anti sway hitch to tow my Jayco Jay Feather Camper 5000lb fully loaded. I would be towing it with my 2016 GMC Canyon. I would appreciate your suggestions. Thanks

You'll need to determine your trailer's tongue weight which should be between 10 and 15 percent of its total weight. Then you'll want to add that to the amount of weight you have stored behind the rear axle of your 2016 GMC Canyon to get your total tongue weight.
The most sure way to find your trailer's tongue weight is with a tongue weight scale # e99044.
You want your total tongue weight to fall within the range of the weight distribution system you use. I suggest the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66559 which is rated from 500 to 1,000 pounds.
The Steadi-Flex uses friction pads for sway control similar to automotive brake pads. It also installs without drilling and has brackets that clamp to your trailer's frame. So there are no chains to mess with. I've attached a couple of review videos for you to take a look at also.
You also need a hitch ball. Use # A-90 for a 2 inch ball or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch.
