Recommendation for a 5 Bike Hitch Mounted Bike Rack for a 2008 Subaru with 2 Inch Trailer Hitch
Question:
I want to buy a bike rack that will hold 5 bikes. It will be mounted on a Suburban 2008 LT with a 2 hitch. It will be used by a family of 6 - two adults and four children. They want to be able to use the rack to take their bikes to a local park as well as on longer trips. Please advise me of which rack I should buy and why.

For a 5 bike, trailer hitch mounted bike rack, we have some options. They all have similar features, but since you will be carrying childrens bikes, I recommend the Folding 5 Bike Rack Swagman XP, # S64970, that you have referenced. The single arm design is more accommodating to smaller and alternative frame bikes. I have included links to the installation details and a video review for reference.
An important measurement to take ahead of time is the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the distance require to clear the rear of the vehicle. If that distance is less than 7-3/4 inches, this bike rack will fit.
If you take this measurement and find the Swagman rack will not fit, then try the Apex, # TH9026XT which measures 12 inches from the hitch pin hole to the back of the rack. With this rack, to accommodate the childrens and/or alternative frame bikes, you will probably need to use Adapter Bar, # 64005. I have included links to the installation details and video reviews of the rack and adapter.
