Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver for a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
Question:
Hi. I own a 2013 equinox 4 cyl and need hitch for a 2-bike rack ihave not purchased a rack yetI may use the hitch for towing, but it whatever I tow could not be very heavy because of my 4cyl. Does it matter which hitch class I buy? I would prefer a 2 inch receiver because it is probably stronger. Also, there seem to be more hitch accessory options available for 2 inch hitched. What would you recommend. Thx

You are on the right track with the way that you are thinking. If you can install a 2 inch trailer hitch receiver on your vehicle then you have a higher weight capacity for your hitch and you have access to more accessories. In the case of your 2013 Chevrolet Equinox, you will want to install the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver # e98865.
This hitch has a 2 inch receiver and has a Max Tongue weight of 350 lbs and a Max Gross Trailer Weight of 3,500 lbs. Be sure to check your owner's manual to see what the weight capacities are for your Equinox since that will likely be the deciding factor on how much weight you can haul or tow.
A good starter towing kit for towing is the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which includes 2 ball mounts and 2 hitch balls. Be sure to check out the helpful article that I linked about Rise and Drop to make sure that you get a ball mount with the correct rise or drop for your application. You can use the Pin and Clip # PC3 with either of the ball mounts.
If you do not already have a 4-Way wiring harness at the rear of your Equinox then you can use the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118494 if your trailer uses a 4-Way. If your trailer has a 7-Way then you will want to install the Universal Installation Kit # ETBC7 as well. I have attached a demonstration video and a helpful article about installing the ETBC7 kit for your reference.
One of my favorite hanging 2 bike racks is the Kuat Beta # B202-2 for how light it is and the fact that it is delivered fully assembled. You can add locks to this rack with parts # HL2 and # e98891.
I have included some links to demonstration videos and some other helpful articles for you to check out as well.
