Recommended Trailer Hitch And Cargo Carrier For 2010 Ford Edge
Question:
I want to use my 2010 Ford Edge SE to carry sports equipment, not pull a trailer. I note that hitch C13067 fits all Ford Edge models, 2010 to 2014, and will support a 400 lb tongue weight. I note that hitch 75728 fits Ford Edge Sport models from 2011 to 2014, and supports a heavier tongue weight of 525 lbs which is very desirable. Will it fit on my 2010 Ford Edge SE? Thanks,

A big misunderstanding is that the capacity of the trailer hitch that is designed to fit a vehicle means the vehicle can carry the weight listed for the trailer hitch. Most trailer hitches are rated with a higher capacity than the vehicles they will work with. Such is the case for your 2010 Ford Edge.
I did some research on your Edge and found on page 210 of the owner's manual that the vehicle is limited to 200-lbs tongue weight if it is a Class l model which is standard. If you have the optional Class ll package then the tongue weight capacity is 350-lbs. I have attached a copy of the page you can check out.
When you consider the tongue weight you also have to include the weight of the carrier you place in the trailer hitch. You are correct that the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C13067 is a fit for your Edge. It also requires you to use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 or it will void the warranty for the hitch. For that reason I recommend the Draw-Tite, part # 75992. It is also a Class lll hitch like the Curt hitch but does not require the strap.
The # 75758 trailer hitch will only fit Sport models of the Ford Edge.
I have attached a link to the cargo carriers that will fit a 2-inch trailer hitch receiver opening. I recommend a carrier like part # C18100. This is an aluminum carrier that can handle cargo capacity up to 500-lbs. The carrier only weighs 29-lbs so that leaves you about 320-lbs if your Edge is the Class ll model.
I also recommend a locking hitch pin like part # e98880.
To keep the gear in place on the carrier you may want to check out part # C18202. This is a cargo net that hooks to the carrier and holds the gear down.
