Recommendation on a Brake Controller to Fit a 2008 Toyota Tundra 4X4
Question:
I am needing a brake controller for my 2008 Tundra 5.7 DC 4x4. I will be pulling a 23ft hybrid travel trailer. Saw different ones on the website ranging from around $40 up to $150. Not sure the difference or which one would work best for me. Could you help? Thanks.

For your 2008 Toyota Tundra 4x4, we carry many different models of brake controllers that differ in number of brakes they can operate to various power settings to the type of informational displays are on the unit. However, the 2 main groups brake controllers will fall in are proportional or time-delayed.
Time-delayed brake controllers will activate the trailer brakes at preset intensity and rate of application. These setting are set-up by the driver prior to towing. The upside to these controllers is they tend to be more user friendly and easy to install. However these controllers can cause uneven brake wear.
I have linked an article that give more information on the two different controllers and an installation video for the Primus IQ on a 2008 Toyota Tundra for you to review.
The brake controller I recommend is a proportional brake controller. The proportional controllers will activate your trailer brakes based on amount of braking you are applying at your truck. The harder your press your truck brakes the harder your trailer brakes will activate.
A proportional brake controller, like the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160, will give you smoother and quicker braking on your trailer. Also, proportional controllers will cause less brake wear on both trailer and tow vehicle.
Since you already have the 7-way installed on your vehicle, then all you will need to install the a controller like the Primus IQ will be the # 3040-P plug-in wiring harness. This plug will connect to the back of the brake controller and the other end connects to your Toyota's pre-wired connector located under the dash.
