Recommended Weight Distribution System for Trailer with 900 Pounds of Tongue Weight
Question:
I was wondering what stabilizer / equalizer hitch you would recommend. My tongue weight is around 900 lb and gross trailer weight around 4000 lbs. Any recommendations would be helpful. Thank you.

I'll start by saying 900 pounds is a lot of tongue weight for a 4,000 pound trailer. That's over 20 percent and you want to fall between 10 to 15 percent normally.
If you're already factoring in the weight stored behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle it would be more reasonable. You'll need to add this in to your trailer's loaded and ready to tow tongue weight to choose the correct weight distribution system.
If the 900 pounds is the total tongue weight including the weight stored behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle I suggest the Reese Steadi-Flex # RP66559. It's rated from 500 to 1,000 pounds. If you need to go higher the # RP66560 is from 600 to 1,200 pounds.
I like the Steadi--Flex systems because of the automotive style friction pads used for sway control. I have first hand experience with one (See the attached video) I can verify they work.
For either system you'll need a hitch ball. Use # A-90 for a 2 inch or # 19286 for a 2-5/16 inch.
