Recommended Weight Distribution System with Sway Control for 6,500 Pound Loaded Trailer
Question:
I need a WDH with sway. I like the equalizer with 4 point as it allows backup. My camping trailer is 5000 dry and 6500 loaded. Im guess i need the 1000lb rated one. Also since i need the complete setup can you tell me what is the difference between these 2 products. They appear the same. EQ37101ET EQ37100ET

When choosing the right weight distribution system, the most important factor to consider is the total tongue weight of your setup. The total tongue weight is the loaded tongue weight of your trailer along with any added weight behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle.
Typically, the tongue weight will be around 10-15% of the trailer's total weight. So, we can estimate the loaded tongue weight of your trailer to be around 650-975 pounds. If we add an estimated 200 pounds that will be coming from behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle, that puts your total tongue weight at 850-1,175 pounds. You will want your total tongue weight to be somewhere in the middle of the weight distribution system's weight capacity range. You can use a tongue weight scale like the etrailer # e99044 to verify your trailer's tongue weight.
The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37100ET referenced in your question may work depending on what your loaded tongue weight ends up being. The weight capacity of this system is 600 - 1,000 pounds, so if your tongue weight ends up on the high end of our estimate, this system will be slightly underrated.
I recommend looking at the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37120ET, which has a higher weight range capacity of 800-1,200 pounds and should work great for your setup. This system also has the 4-Point Sway Control and allows backing up as well. It includes the head assembly, adjustable shank, spring bars, sway control brackets, hitch ball, lift hand, and all necessary hardware.
I have attached a video demonstration of this system for you to check out. I have also attached a helpful article on weight distribution systems for you to review.
Lastly, the only difference between the Equal-i-zer # EQ37101ET and # EQ37100ET as referenced in your question is that the # EQ37100ET includes the adjustable shank, while the # EQ37101ET does not, so it would need to be purchased separately if you do not already have one.
