The Tekonsha Prodigy RF Brake Controller - Proportional - Trailer Mounted, part # TK27FR, will work on trailers with electric brakes. This brake controller will mount on your trailer and will plug into a 7-way connector on your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It will operate by a wireless remote that will plug into your 12 volt DC outlet on your tow vehicle. This Prodigy RF brake controller is designed for a trailer that will be towed by different vehicles, like fleet owners. I am including a link to the instructions on the Prodigy RF brake controller.
You also referenced the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Contoller, part # 39510. This is a brake controller that is installed in your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee and will control the electric brakes on your trailer. If you have a factory 7-way connector on your Jeep all you will need to do is wire the brake controller wires to your vehicle.
If you do not have a 7-way connector at the rear of your vehicle the easiest way to install the Voyager brake controller to your 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee is with the Brake Controller 7 & 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. It does require a 4-way trailer connector like the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness, part # 118394, at the rear of your vehicle.
The T-One wiring harness will plug into the back of the taillights. I am including a video link that will show this harness being installed on a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The # ETBC7 Installation Kit, comes with a new 7-Way and 4-Way connector which will plug into the new 4-way trailer connector on the rear of your vehicle. The 4 remaining wires will be hardwired to the vehicle. I am including a link to detailed instructions on how to install the # ETBC7 kit on your vehicle. It will show where the four remaining wires will connect.
