Recommended Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier for Camper Shell on 2008 Toyota Tundra

Question:

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra Long bed with a camper shell by ARE with a headliner. I am wondering what configuration I would need to put a roof rack on it. Not too particular. Just looking for something to hold 2 kayaks.

To install a roof rack onto the camper shell of your 2008 Toyota Tundra, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Roof Rack System - Track Mount # Y02-490B. This will include everything that is needed to install a roof rack, including two 59 inch long aero crossbars and two RTC-style tracks with dual C-channels that will allow for adjustable mounting points for the roof rack legs. Keep in mind that drilling into the camper shell is required to attach the tracks. This rack has a weight capacity of 220 pounds but you will want to check the capacity of your camper shell, as this will most likely be the limiting factor. I have included an installation video for you to review.

Then to carry your kayaks, I recommend the Rhino-Rack J-Style Kayak Carrier # S512. This is a folding, j-style cradle that will allow you to carry 1 kayak on its side and includes tie-down straps. You will just add the Expansion Arm # RRS512X so that you can carry both of your kayaks. I have also attached a video review of this carrier.
