Tow Bar and Adapters to Flat Tow a 1999 Jeep Cherokee With D Rings

Question:

I need a tow bar that will work with D Rings on my 1999 Cherokee. One without speed restrictions and good quality but not fancy. Regular tow bar to get my Jeep to the campsite. What do you have?

I do have a tow bar solution for you, but the first thing that you will need to be able to tow your 1999 Jeep Cherokee with the D Rings is an adapter. Since most cars usually install base plates for flat towing, we will need to use an adapter, like part # RM-035-1 which are for 1 inch shackle mounts or # RM-035 which are for 3/4 inches shackle mounts, to be able to connect your D rings to the tow bar. Keep in mind that your D rings need to be rated for flat towing.

The Roadmaster Falcon 2, part # RM-520, is the part that you are looking for when it comes to a Tow Bar. This tow bar is rated at 6,000 lbs, fits a 2 inch receiver, and it is the most economical tow bar that is compatible with the adapter that I just referenced.

Safety Cables are required when flat towing any vehicle, for your application I recommend using the Roadmaster 64 inch Single Hook, part # RM-645, which is rated for 8,000 lbs.

Brake Lights are another thing that is required to function when flat towing. If you are going to be only flat towing your Jeep every once in awhile, you might not want to hardwire a lighting system into your Jeep's brake lights. You can use the Optronics Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights, part # TL21RK, you quickly add and remove the required working brake lights to your Cherokee.

In most states you have to use a supplemental braking system in your flat towing setup. I am attaching a link to our Supplemental Braking System collection so that you can pick the system that best suites your situation. I do recommend going with the Roadmaster Even Brake, part # RM-9400, because it is a universal fit and is very easy to use.

Be sure to check your owner's manual for any specifications for flat towing your Jeep Cherokee.

I have included some links to some demonstration videos and helpful articles for you to read as well.
