Could 1,000 lb Tongue Weight Equalizer System be Used on 5k Trailer

Question:

If I have a trailer with uvw less then 5000#, are there any advantages or disadvantages to using either the 6000# or 10000# equal-i-zer hitch

The best way to pick out a weight distribution system is to base it off of the loaded tongue weight of the setup when it is loaded and ready to tow. This figure also includes the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well. You will want the loaded tongue weight of your setup to fall right in the middle of the tongue weight range of the system you use.

Tongue weight is typically 10-15 percent of total trailer weight. So for a 5,000 lb trailer your tongue weight would most likely be between 500 and 750 lbs. A 1,000 lb tongue weight Equalizer system like part # EQ37100ET has a tongue weight range of 600 to 1,000 lbs so it could work for you.
