Ground Clearance with a Trailer Hitch Installed on a 2011 Chrysler Town & Country

Question:

I have a Chrysler 2011 Town and Country Deluxe. I would like to install a hitch which will not drag on pavement on steep driveways , on parking lot entrances which have rough areas or on speedbumps. What clearance is there from the bottom of the receptacle? Also, would a bumper cut-out have to be done?

The trailer hitches for the 2011 Chrysler Town & Country that will allow for the most ground clearance are the ones where only the receiver part of the hitch is visible such as # 13364 which hangs down about an inch or so lower than the bottom of the exhaust tip which you can see in the video showing installation that I have linked. The rear fascia on the vehicle may need to be notched out a little as specified in the instructions which I have also linked.

When we installed this hitch on a 2011 we found that from the ground to the top of the receiver opening was 12-1/2 inches. So to the bottom of the receiver that distance would be approximately 10 inches. But keep in mind that the distance from the rear axle to the end of the vehicle is not very far which will reduce the chance of the hitch scraping the ground.

If you plan on doing any towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4EL. It comes with a ball mount with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop, interchangeable ball set, a hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. If the ball mount kit does not have the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, use the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.

And for a trailer wiring harness you can use # C56331 to add a 4-Way flat connector to the rear of the vehicle. I have linked a video showing how it installs as well.
