Comparing Tekonsha Proportional Brake Controllers for a 2003 Jeep Wrangler
Question:
Looking at proportional brake controllers for a 2003 jeep wrangler tj. Will be towing an electric brake equipped adventure trailer around 1000 lbs. Single axle Which is the recommended tekonsha controller for this application? I saw a few ranging from $60-130 and dont know the main differences or if Im getting a bunch of features i cant use on the higher end ones. And is the etbc7 the only other component I would need I already have a 4 way plug installed. Thank you

When looking at the Tekonsha proportional brake controllers there are some differences that set each one apart from the others.
At the low end we have the Voyager # 39510 with # 20127. It uses older technology to sense deceleration, only has an indicator light, no display or readout, and you have to manually level it. It also has a narrower mounting range than the other options.
Next up from the Voyager is the Primus # TK90160. This controller has the guts of the original Prodigy brake controller. It uses accelerometers to sense deceleration, it does have a display, and it levels itself automatically. It is limited to the same mounting range as the original Prodigy.
Next we have the P2 # 90885 (Prodigy 2). This is the upgraded version of the popular Prodigy. It has a digital display, automatic leveling, accelerometers, works with electric and electric over hydraulic braking systems (on the trailer), and it can be mounted a full 360 degrees in the direction of trailer.
And the top model is the P3 # 90195. The P3 can do all of the things the P2 can do but what sets it apart are all of its additional features including easy to understand diagnostics, color and language options, presets for towing different trailers, and an LCD display.
For your 2003 Jeep Wrangler I would go with the P2 or P3 because they are so versatile and reliable. The Primus is a solid performer but I would not use the Voyager because it is old tech and doesn't have a display.
Since your Jeep already has a 4-Way the # ETBC7 kit would be the only other part you would need to add a 7-Way and install the brake controller. I have included some links that show and explain the ETBC7 installation for you as well as a link to our help article on brake controllers.
