Why Does Trailer Hitch Say Higher Capacity When Used with Weight Distribution System

Question:

Hi. I have a 2006 4runner 4.7 v8 2wd. Stated towing capacity is 7300 lbs and the tongue weight is 730 LBS. The mounted hitch receiver, which is designed for a WD hitches, States via a sticker on it, a tongue weight of 1000 lbs and a tow rating of 10k lbs. What would account for the difference in weights? Thanks!

Weight distribution system allow vehicles and hitches the ability to carry more weight in most cases due to their design.

A weight distribution system goes into the hitch and uses a set of spring bars to apply tension and spread the load across the van frame. Since the load has been distributed, the hitch is not bearing all of the weight, hence the weight distribution capacity.

I attached a help article with more info on what weight distribution systems are used for as well.
