Replacement Axle for Early 80s Coleman Pop-Up Camper Trailer
Question:
I need help locating a replacement axle for an old early 80s coleman popup camper. I dont know anything about the camper, and theres no ID tags on the frame or axle. The current axle appears to be 1 3/4 inch diameter. The hub face measurement is 53inch and the spring seat measurement is 41. The hubs are 4 on 4. Do you have an equivalent axle size in stock?

None of our beam trailer axles have the 53-inch hub face and 41-inch spring center dimensions of the original axle on your older Coleman pop-up camper trailer. The closest axle kits we have are parts # CE33201GA and # CE33201GA-HUB, both rated for 1800-lbs. These are 57-1/2-inches from hub face to hub face and have spring centers at 46-1/2-inches.
However, we do have another option that will allow you to replace the axle: a Timbren axle-less suspension kit. These unique trailer suspension products bolt or weld to your trailer's frame and use internal rubber springs, rather than leaf springs, as the suspension element. They can give you superior ground clearance (since there is no longer an axle beam under the trailer). All 4-on-4 kits are shown on the linked page.
The highest-rated kit is equivalent to a 2K axle and includes idler hubs. This kit is part # A20RS440. You will of course need to ensure a 2K system is adequate for the trailer's fully-loaded weight.
The Timbren Axle-Less suspension system may require additional support on your trailer. If your trailer does not have a cross member above the spot where you want to install the Timbren system, you may need to reinforce the frame. You can accomplish this three ways. First, you can retrofit the trailer with a cross member. Second, you can build out the trailer frame. Third, you can use standard, 2-inch steel tubing to connect the 2 Timbren suspensions together using the built-in square hole on each unit.
