What is Needed to Install Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller on 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited
Question:
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara 2010 has the factory tow package 4 way: I bought the Primus IQ 90160 brake controller. I will tow a camper-trailer Sonic Lite the hookup is 7 way and has electronic brakes. I want to charge the campers battery when I tow. Which 4 to 7 way adapter do I buy? An adapter with wires, correct, to utilize the camper electronic brakes? What else do I need? It looks like I hardwire the brake controller under the dash to the appropriate wires. But, with my Jeep, is a quick connector available instead of wiring the controller to the existing Jeep wires?

To install the Tekonsha Primus IQ Brake Controller, # TK90160 on your 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited with factory 4 way tow package, you will need the wiring installation kit # ETBC7. This will include everything you need to install both the brake controller and a fully functional 7-way connector to hookup to your trailer. The 7-way connector will provide a wire for your camper's battery as well.
The 4 Pole Adapter # 30717 that you referenced in your question will work for simply converting your existing 4-way into a 7-way connector, but will not include everything needed to also install your brake controller and battery charge circuit as well. The above KIT # ETBC7 includes everything needed to do both. I have included an installation video for a Jeep Wrangler for you to check out.
On your Jeep Wrangler, you will need to hard wire the brake controller as the vehicle does not provide a quick connection point for a brake controller.
