Trailer Hitch Extender or Adapter for a Factory 1-1/4 Inch Hitch on a 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek
Question:
Subaru 2014 Crosstrek. Have factory installed hitch. Receiver is 1 1/4. I bought an extension from 1 1/4 to 2 inch. Being that the receiver is 1 1/4 inch that adapter I bought doesnt fit. Looks like I need a smaller one. Would that be a correct assumption?

Expert Reply:
If you just need to extend the 1-1/4 inch receiver out then you can use extender # HES6. If you do need to go from a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch then you can use # HTAD. But keep in mind that the use of an extender or adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.
