Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 2011 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter
Question:
I have a 2011 Mercedes benz sprinter 2500 that needs a class III hitch installed. I know which hitch I need but cant figure out which wiring. The trailer is a twin axel with brakes. I will need some kind of brake controller and a harness. What do you suggest? The van is currently an empty cargo van but originally had seats and nice upolstry, if that makes any difference. Also frame rails measure about 38.5 inches outside to outside.

The trailer wiring I recommend for your 2011 Sprinter is the T-One, part # 118650. This attaches to the vehicle wiring located in the rear cargo area behind the tail lightson both sides of the Sprinter. You will need to remove some of the interior panels to gain access to the connection points. You will then need to run the hot lead wire to the positive battery post using the included fuse holder.
The brake controller I recommend for you is the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller, part # 90195. This is one of our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. Since there is no plug in harness available you will need to do some additional hard wiring for installation.
The 7-way wiring you will need is part # ETBC7. This attaches to the 4-way trailer connector and gives you a working 4-way and 7-way connector. You will need to hard-wire the additional wires from the # ETBC7.
I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring needs to be run when installing the brake controller and # ETBC7.
When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
