How to Carry Two Kayaks on the Roof of a 2008 Honda Fit
Question:
I need to transport both a tandem kayak 13.5 ft. long and a single kayak on top of my 2008 Honda Fit. It is a naked roof. What recommendations do you have for systems that will allow for this? Thank you. Great site. Really helpful.

To carry kayaks on your roof you're going to need a roof rack and a carrier to go with it. The most popular roof rack for your 2008 Honda Fit is the SportRack # SR1002. This rack installs on the naked roof using clamps that attach to your door jambs. The crossbars are 50 inches long and it can support up to 130 pounds. It also includes locks to secure the rack to your car's roof.
In addition to your roof rack to carry both of your kayaks I suggest the Thule Stacker # TH830. This will allow you to carry both kayaks on their sides. It includes all the straps necessary to secure them to the rack and at the bow and stern.
Before purchasing anything you should verify that the roof of your Fit can support the weight. The roof rack can support up to 130 pounds but that doesn't mean the car can. Check your owner's manual to find the weight capacity of the roof and make sure it will support the weight of the kayaks. In addition, a 13-1/2 foot kayak is longer than your car. It is also a good idea to check the area that you'll be carrying the kayaks for legal restrictions carrying items that extend beyond your bumpers. There may be additional requirements.
