Installing Hopkins Agility Brake Controller Part # HM47294 in 2005 Dodge Dakota with No Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota. It does NOT have the factory tow package. I would like to be able to unplug my brake controller when not in use. If I buy HM47294-47755 could I just cut the vehicle side of the plug and wire this in, or do you maybe have a universal plug for this brand of brake controller?

Hopkins does not offer a universal plug for the Agility Brake Controller. Your best bet would be to order the controller and harness combination you referenced, and cut off the vehicle end of the plug as you mentioned.

The bare leads on the end of the harness would then be hardwired into the vehicle. We offer a Hardwired Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7 for a 7-way trailer connector, or # ETBC6 for a 6-way. The install kit provides the adapter to convert a 4-pole connector to a 6 or 7-way, hardware and wire. If your Dakota does not already have a 4-pole connector, you will also need part # 55323.

We have a Brake Controller Install Guide that you might find helpful, as well as a FAQ that contains additional information about brake controllers. To view the Guide and the FAQ, use the provided links.

I have also provided a link to an installation video that will walk you through the install process. The video shows a controller being installed on a different vehicle, but the process will be similar enough that you should find it helpful.
