4-Way To 7-Way Trailer Connection For Use Without Trailer Brakes
Question:
Hello, Im interested in product: Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector. I just want to be sure Im getting the right adapter. I have a 4 pole connector on the tow vehicle now. I need to adapt that to a 7 pole for a cargo trailer which has the 7 pole connector. I believe this product is the right one? Also, the other wires coming off are for brake controller and other purposes. Do I need to hook up any of the wiring just to transport a trailer from point A to point B? I dont need brakes at this time. Eventually Ill have a more permanent tow vehicle with brake controller. Thank you,

For your specific application, you can simply connect the Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector, # 30717, and mount it with # 18138. Since you don't need brakes, 12 V charging power, or reverse lights on the trailer the other wires can just remain unconnected. You can transport the trailer from point A to point B without those other wires connected. Without connecting the additional wires on the # 30717, you will still have turn, stop, and taillight functions on the trailer.
When you eventually want to tow the trailer with brakes, you will want to connect those wires and add a brake controller.
