Availability of 4-Pole to 5-Pole Flat Trailer Wiring Adapter
Question:
I heard there was no adapter to go from a 4 pin vehicle to 5 pin trailer without impacting the brakes on the trailer. The option I was given was to rewire the tow vehicle to make it a 5 pin. If that is true, is it a painful/expensive process or something the guys at a U-Haul facility for example, can knock out relatively quickly?

We do offer wiring adapter kits to convert a vehicle 4-pole wiring harness to a 5-pole type for the trailer that includes an additional circuit for a trailer coupler's electric reverse lockout function. Both items are shown on the linked page, Tow Ready # 20036 and Hopkins # 47515. Both include a separate blue wire that can provide the additional reverse light or trailer brake power circuit.
