Recommended Skid Wheels For 40-Ft Long Fifth Wheel Trailer

Question:

On your casters, my questions is forced weight issue. The lot for my camper/5th wheel is a very steep approach. Truck weight 8,000lbs camper weight 16,000lbs. 40foot 5th wheel tandem axle when backing down the entrance that is appx 24,000 lbs of force that would be applied to the casters do you have any suggestions on which/what to use out side of redoing the parking spot entrance/exit.. Thank you

Expert Reply:

That is quite a bit of weight at the back of your fifth wheel trailer. I recommend part # UF48-979013 skid wheels as they would be the best option for you. These do not have a weight capacity listed because they are used to help keep the back of your trailer from dragging when facing steep inclines. They are not meant to sustain heavy weights for an extended period of time.

These skid wheels include a plate that is welded to the trailer frame and the hardware is included to bolt the wheels to the plate.

If possible entering and leaving the entrance at an angle would reduce the amount of stress on the wheels.
