Roof Rack Fit Recommendation for 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT with Panoramic Sunroof

Question:

Good morning! I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT hatchback with panoramic sunroof. Im looking at roof rack options to carry a ~60lb, 14.5foot kayak and perhaps a small cargo box for weekend trips. I’ve been doing a lot of research and haven’t found a ton of promising info on this setup. At the minimum, I would appreciate being able to use the tilt feature on my sunroof, but ideally I could still slide the roof wide open. Thus far, I’ve noted that Rola, Thule Traverse, Yakima Baseline, and Inno may provide some possibilities, but I want your professional opinion based on your experience with any previous customers in my position with the Hyundai panoramic sunroof series of vehicles. Also, because the front of the sunroof extends beyond its base as it is opened which would definitely bump into the front pair of rack feet, but the back should be more in the clear?, I realize most towers would not work. Is there any reason the front mounting could not be moved just ahead of the windshield/sunroof line? I cannot attach a picture here, but I have one ready if needed. Also, are you able to do test fittings at your location in Wentzville? Anyway, thank you very much for your help. I look forward to finding something that will work! Best regards,

There aren't a whole lot of options for a roof rack on your 2016 Hyundai Elantra GT with the panoramic glass roof but I was able to get a confirmed fit from Thule.

You would need the fit kit part # THKIT1695, for crossbars the part # TH711420 and then the foot pack part # TH480R. We normally don't recommend opening any type of sun roof on a vehicle with a roof rack installed as the wind noise is pretty intense from the crossbars.

Yes we do test fits at our location here in Wentzville, MO. If you are local you can come on by!

I have a 2016 hyundai elantra gt with Panoramic glass sun roof. 1. Would you recommend this over yakima racks? 2. Do you have kayak holders? 3. Do you have locks for this system? Thanks,

1. Both the Thule and Yakima roof rack systems are top notch and the recommendations basically boil down to preference or necessity in certain situations. For this situation either one will be great. 2. We do have a variety of kayak carriers. I've linked our selection for you to filter through but my personal favorite is the Thule Hull-A-Port # TH849000 simply because it installs in the T-Slot and it looks very sleek. 3. For the Thule kit use part # TH450400 for the locks.
