Weight Distribution System for Boat Trailer with Boat Weighing around 13,000 lbs

Question:

Need help deciding on a weight distribution setup to tow my boat with. Current systems I own arent rated high enough. Figuring on the weight of boat and trailer being around 13k so 1,300-1,500 tongue weight max of current hitch. Also it has surge brakes and is a pole tongue which seems to limit my options significantly. Reese # RP58393 is the adapter Im looking at since it appears to be the highest weigh rated one I found. Looks like # RP66157and # RP66561 are my two choices for WD setup. I like the 15k one, just not the pads instead of friction like the 14k version. Any problems you can foresee with those options? Ill still need chains and a ball but those are easy to figure out.

Weight Distribution on a boat trailer is possible, but not as easy to find options. There aren't many options as the pole tongue system doesn't allow for much distribution. There are parts like the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems # RP58393 or the Pole-Tongue Adapter for Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Systems, # EQ95-01-5950, that provide properly spaced mounting points for the sway control brackets of the system.

You mentioned liking the Reese SC Weight Distribution w Sway Control 15,000 lb system RP66157, but not being a fan of the pads. The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control 14,000 lb, # EQ37140ET, would allow you to have a system without the pads and includes the Hitch Ball, but you would have to keep your total tongue weight under 1400 lbs. Your total tongue weight is typically 10-15% of your trailer weight as well as any weight behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. I've attached a couple help articles to assist.

The Reese system would require a separate hitch ball like # C40030. Your trailer's current safety chains are all that is necessary, no additional chains are needed for Weight distribution systems

You will want to check with the trailer manufacturer prior to using a weight distribution system to ensure it is compatible.

Another option for you to consider is to use vehicle suspension enhancement, like jounce springs, air springs, or an active suspension kit to enhance your tow vehicle's weight stability and function when towing. These systems are year, make, model specific, so if you decide to go that route, let me know your vehicle info and I'd be happy to help.
