Does the 2009 Dodge Caliber Require a Spare Tire Hold Down When Installing a Trailer Hitch

Question:

The manual claims that when adding a tow hitch, need to install the spare tire hold down strap. I dont see that you indicate such an item...what do you think?

I did a little research and found that statement in the owners manual for a 2009 Dodge Caliber about the strap. It stated that it is a MOPAR, part which means it comes from the dealer. I also read that it may not be necessary when installing an aftermarket trailer hitch, like # 24769. There is nothing in the installation instructions, linked below, that even mention the spare tire/jack.

I have also included a video showing this hitch being installed on a 2009 Caliber that also makes no mention of the spare tire, a strap, or the necessity of another part. It could be that the OEM Dodge trailer hitches attach to the vehicle in a different way and if using one of them, the strap is needed. I would contact a local dealer and ask them more about the strap. If they state it is necessary, then you should follow their recommendation.
