Question:

If I have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 that is already wired with a 4 pin flat, do I need to purchase and install item ETBC7 to use the TeKonsha Brake Controller - 39510?

On a 2006 Dodge Ram that came with a factory installed 4-Way trailer connector the brake (blue) wire does not run all the way back to the back of the truck; it stops at the connector that is located under the driver's side wheel well. In order to finalize the installation you must splice into this wire and continue it back to the plug.

The 12 volt circuit wire is also not present at the back so what I recommend is to use about 20 feet of wire # 10-2-1 (sold by the foot) to complete the installation. You will also need a 40 amp circuit breaker, # PK54540, for the 12 volt circuit.

For a 7-way you then would want the part # 37185. The wire will get ran to the blue wire of this.

For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885. This is our best selling brake controller because of how well it works and how easy it is to setup. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is applying and applies a proportionate amount to the trailer brakes. The # 39510 you mentioned would work as well though.

The correct harness you would need then would be the part # 3020-P which will allow you to plug the controller right into your truck.
