Installing a 4-Pole to 6-Pole Adapter on 2010 Ford Edge to Power Trailer Brakes and 12V Accesories

Question:

I recently purchased part #118551 wiring harness for my 2010 Ford Edge. Everything installed very nicely however, I now need to hook up my 6 pole trailer wiring to my recently installed 4 flat. Im planning on purchasing the 4-6 adaptor so I can use my trailer brakes and 12v system on my camper trailer. My question is, can I run the black wire from the 4-6 adaptor to the recently installed black wire that was ran straight to the car battery from the 4 flat trailer harness installation? If so, do I need to install a different fuse other than the inline fuse that came with the 4 flat kit? If this isnt an option, will I need to run an additional wire straight to the car battery to power the 12v accessories in my camper? Thanks!

To convert the 4-Pole flat trailer connector on your 2010 Ford Edge I recommend using the # ETBC6 kit. This kit will provide you with a 4-Pole and 6-Pole connector and all of the wiring and hardware needed for the installation of the adapter and a brake controller.

The black 12V power wire for the 6-Pole connector needs to be ran directly from the connector to a 40-amp circuit breaker and then to the positive terminal on the vehicle battery. You will not want to connect the 6-Pole's 12V hot lead wire to the power wire for the wiring harness.

The size fuse included for the wiring harness needs to stay in-line for the harness's power wire in order to properly protect that wiring harness. The 12V power wire for the 6-Pole connector needs the 40-amp circuit breaker to protect it, outside of the fuse on the custom harness.

The wiring needed to run the 12V power wire for the 6-Pole connector is included with the # ETBC6 kit. This kit also includes the wiring needed to run a brake signal wire between the 6-Pole connector and a brake controller in the Edge.

If you need a brake controller, the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885 is a great option to provide you with proportional braking for your trailer. I've attached a review video of this controller for you.
