Can the Reese Low-Profile 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch be Mounted to Above the Bed Rails

Question:

Can you install this 5th wheel using rails instead of the steel plate under the bed? Im looking for a 5th wheel that can haul 30k. It would be installed in a Dodge Ram 3500 dually with a 8ft bed.

On trailer hitches that fit above the bed rails the bases or legs will have little tabs to fit in the mounting slots on the tops of the rails. The Reese Low-Profile hitch # RP30054 does not have those tabs so there isn't a way to safely mount it to rails.

The highest capacity hitch that will fit in above the bed rails is Husky hitch # HT31318-31325 which is rated for 26,000 pounds. I have linked a video review of this hitch for you. If you can tell me the year of your Ram 3500 I can recommend an installation kit if you decide to go with the Husky hitch.
