Where does Curt Reference This Trailer Hitch Support Strap?
Question:
Why do you say on this product page: the following: Per Curt warranty requirements, all non-trailer loads bike racks, cargo carriers, etc must be supported by stabilizing straps, sold separately I can find no evidence of this in Curts warranty Thanks

The warranty information page doesn't specify use of the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap # 18050 because it doesn't apply to all of the hitches that Curt manufactures. Curt typically lists this information in the installation instructions pdf for the products that it directly refers to like the 2010 Ford Edge Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Class III - 2", # C13067. I've attached the link to the installation instructions pdf and you'll see that recommendation in a red box in the upper right hand side of the first page. Sometimes further down, it will say "Warning: Failure to properly support non-trailer loads will void product warranty."
I contacted the manufacturer and they said the requirement for their warranty is on all Class I and Class II hitch receivers, but that they recommend it for their Class III hitch receivers as well.
Curt is the only company that recommends or requires this stability strap, so if it is a deal breaker, you may just want to consider another brand hitch like Draw-Tite # 75992.
