Replacement Cam Arms for Reese Strait Line System with Older Gold Arms

Question:

I have a Reese Strait Line - Dual Cam HP weight distributing trunnion bar kit with 800 lbs bars, manufactured 2007 or older. After so many seasons of towing, the cam arms have worn flat spots in area in contact with spring bar as expected. The cam arms on my assembly are gold in color with straight not curved or angled chain brackets. I understand that there have been changes to the Dual Cam HP kits and service parts, which are no longer gold in color. The information is unclear in Reese website/literature if currently available service cam arms kit #58435 will work with my older current brackets or not. Are older gold arm part #58460 obsolete? Are the current service cam arms now only intended to service newer style kits, such as the #26002? Some information suggests the cam arms available are not compatible with my older brackets and I must acquire new complete #26002 kits which will have different frame mounting holes not my first choice to drill new holes. The information I got from Reese Technical Assistance is that the #26002 assembly geometry has changed with new bracket and arm configuration changing angles, lengths, position, etc. to improve the performance over my original design therefore he stated some older/newer parts between these designs are incompatible, He advised that for this coming season, I remove the existing cam arms but leave the bracket in place and swap only the arms side to side/invert them. I agree this should work to give me a new round contact surface that should again last several seasons. But I still want to be certain about information when I do replace the cam arms that will eventually wear and even then I need to be sure about the information in case I unexpectedly need servicing parts . - - - Secondly, the hangar brackets: is the latest release from Reese/Tow Ready back to straight brackets and not curved/angled desigh? Are there any differences in current hangar brackets as with the cam arms? Will they fit both my older gold can arms and newer cam arms? - - - - For the record, I have had my Strait Line - Dual Cam HP hitch since day one of towing and would not consider ever towing without it... a true performer! This affordable and simple yet ingenious engineering marvel completely eliminates the white knuckle towing experience from sway, particularly on Interstate Highways with air blasting you from semi trucks whizzing by. In those instances I encounter just a momentary waggle as expected, nothing more just enough to remind you a fair sized truck is there. Once properly installed and set up this hitch systeminch rewards you with total control at all times... peace of mind for under $1,000 is in fact priceless : !

There are some of the older gold arms available as replacement parts. I recommend the Replacement Cam Arm Assembly for Reese Dual Cam Classic - Gold # RP58460 for your current system if you need the replacement bracket the arm fits into. The difference between the gold and newer silver arms like # RP58435 according to my contact at Reese is just the color but the brackets are straight on the old system and have a bend on the newer system that changes that geometry a bit.

Unless you want a new system, I recommend just replacing the arms with # RP58435 to get the rounded part you are seeking.
