Question:

Will a gooseneck hitch work on a 2016 ram 2500 short bed with ram boxes?

If your 2016 Ram 2500 with the Ram Box has coil springs, I recommend the B&W # BWGNRK1384 gooseneck hitch for your 6 foot bed with Ram Boxes on the side.

This gooseneck hitch will have a 7,500 TW and a 30,000lb GTW. There will be no drilling to install the frame brackets of this installation kit.

If you don't have coil spring then I recommend the Curt # C60614 gooseneck hitch, because it has the same towing capacities as the B&W gooseneck hitch.

I have linked the above mentioned products to this page as well as installation videos of these goosenecks being installed on a 2014 Ram.

The Ram Boxes are only really an issue for fifth wheel towing as the make the truck bed rails too narrow for a pin box to pivot around without hitting them. For gooseneck you would be just fine.

I see you are referencing to use the B&W turnover ball with a Ram 2500 that has the Rambox feature. I called B&W today and they said not to as the ball locking lever is not accessible under the truck. Can you confirm that works? I was also curious if the Curt 60614 would work on a Ram 2500 with Coil Springs since it locks at the ball? Assuming the B&W turnover does work in my truck, will the Curt X5 16310 work as well. It is made for the B&W, but your website references it does not work in my truck. I have a 2018 Ram 2500 with Rambox. I'm curious why it won't work.

I reached out to my contact at B&W and she said that their gooseneck hitch # BWGNRK1384 is compatible with the RamBox, and so it their Companion 5th wheel hitch that would pair up with it. The thing that isn't compatible with the RamBox is their Patriot 5th wheel hitch because the wheel wells on your truck are non-existent. The reason that the Curt X5 # 16310 won't work with the RamBox is because the pin sits too low for the hole in the shank on the X5 to reach it. So the hitch ball will work, but the adapter won't. For your application you're going to need to use a stationary 5th wheel hitch and a Sidewinder pin box to have clearance above your RamBox. Here is a link to an answer page that goes over this same thing.
