The item you selected, the Derale Transmission Cooler, part # D13611 will work on your 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis as long as you have room to mount it on your vehicle. The ideal place to mount a transmission cooler for maximum cooling efficiency is behind the grill of your 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis but in front of the radiator.
Part # D13611 is a plate and fin cooler and is very effective in cooling the transmission fluid.
You will want to measure at the front of your vehicle to make sure there is room to mount part # D12906 as it measures 11 inches wide, 3-7/8 inches tall and is 1-1/4 inches thick.
In addition to a transmission cooler, you will need Derale Radiator Adapter Fittings for Ford and Mercury, part # D13014.
I contacted our representative at Derale and he confirmed that part # D13611 would work well on your 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis as long as there is room to mount it. He also informed me that instructions are included for part # D13611.
