Recommended Wiring and Brake Controller for a 2006 Nissan Titan without the Tow Package

Question:

I have a 2006 Nissan Titan without the tow package or bumper plug. I need to install a brake controller. I saw the video on how to install the bumper connector and wiring harness on a Nissan Frontier. Is it the same for the Titan? Once I install that harness, how does it connect to the controller? Thanks for the help,

For a 2006 Nissan Titan with no wiring done you will need to first install the 4-way wiring harness, I recommend the # C59496, because we have had better luck with this brand versus the Curt.

Next you will need to outfit your vehicle with a 7-way, this will allow you to use a brake controller for a trailer with brakes. The wiring of the 7-way allows for the correct brake signals to be transferred opposed to just the 4-way. For this I recommend the # ETBC7 adapter. This kit will come with all the parts you need to run the wiring from the back of the vehicle to the brake controller in the cab. This will be similar to the Xterra installation video I've attached for you.

For the Nissan Titan you will need a set of relays # C57000 to activate the trailering tow package. I have linked a video of this for you to check out.

For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha P3 # 90195, because of its easy user interface. The P3 is a proportional brake controller which means it senses how the tow vehicle is slowing or stopping and applies the trailer's brakes with the same intensity. It also has a full display screen instead of codes that need deciphering. The Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is like the P3's little brother, it has all the great qualities but doesn't have the display of the P3.

I have linked all the above mentioned products as well as the articles and videos for your viewing and purchasing convenience.
