Recommended Trailer Hitch For 2013 Volvo XC70 Wagon
Question:
Looking to put a class II hitch on a 2013 Volvo XC70 AWD wagon with a 1-1/4 receiver. The question is, which drawbar? I like the European J bar with a 1-7/8 ball, but will it be too high for the small lightweight utility trailer I plan to drag with it? vs. a standard straight 1-1/4 drawbar? Thanks,

To be honest I recommend installing a Class lll trailer hitch on your XC70 like the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch, part # 75916.
This hitch has a 2-inch receiver opening which gives you many more options for accessories than a Class ll hitch like part # C12066. If you are going to install the # C12066, per Curt you are required to use a stabilizing strap like part # 18050 for any non-trailer items.
Since you mentioned a ball mount I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts; one with a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop and one with a 2-3/4 inch rise or 4 inch drop. It also includes a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag.
If you do not have trailer wiring on your XC70 I recommend part # C56386. This installs by attaching to the connection points located behind the tail lights. You then run a hot lead wire to the car battery.
If the ball mount kit does not include a ball mount with the right rise or drop to tow the trailer level, check out the link I have included that explains how to measure to choose a ball mount to tow the trailer level.
