Replacement Trailer Tire for a 195/70R14 Passenger Tire

Question:

I have a 1967 Avalon camper. The previous owner had regular tires on it. 195 70 R 14. What would you recommend for a trailer tire? I can not go bigger than 13" and do not have enough room for a ST205/75R14 tire.

A 195/70R14 passenger tire has an overall diameter of 24.7" and a width of 7.7". The closest tire size we carry to your tire that is not larger than your current tire is the Kenda ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire, Load Range D # AM10210. This tire has an overall diameter of 24.1" and a width of 7" which is a bit smaller than your tire now, but not by a noticeable difference. The weight capacity of this tire is 1,610 lbs. at 65 psi.

If you do go with this tire, you will also need new wheels, as the diameter of the wheel this tire needs is 13" and right now you have 14" wheels. The last number in the tire size indicates what size wheel you will need. I recommend 13" tires because modern 14" tires are significantly larger.

If you are looking for 5 on 4-1/2 wheels, I recommend the Kenda ST175/80R13 tire and wheel combo # AM31985. This has a weight capacity of 1,610 lbs. at 65 psi. If you are looking for 4 on 4 wheels, I recommend the Kenda Bias Trailer Tire and wheel # AM30780. This wheel has a maximum weight capacity of 1,045 lbs. at 80 psi.

Each Kenda special trailer tire is designed with stronger sidewalls and can handle higher air pressures compared to passenger car tires which are needed when being used on a trailer that is made to carry a load. A trailer tire will always need to be inflated to the maximum inflation pressure to be able to handle the weight capacity it is rated for. This tire has a maximum load capacity of 1,610 lbs. at 65 psi.

I attached a review video of the Kenda ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire you may want to check out. I also attached a help article on how to determine the wheel bolt pattern of your current wheels.
