Suspension Enhancement Recommendation for 2000 Ford F250 Towing a 5th Wheel

Question:

I am driving a 2000 F250, 7.3L, 2WD, 6.5foot bed, Extended Cab pickup to pull a 7,600 dry weight 5th wheel camper probably around 8,600 loaded. What suspension enhancement is recommended for this application? I dont pull any other kind of trailer on a regular basis. Thanks

How you use your truck will decide whether you need a passive-type system or something adjustable. A passive system like the Timbren Aeon Springs, part # TFR150SDE won't have any effect on your truck's ride until a load is placed on your rear suspension (whether it's cargo in the bed or the pin weight from your 5th wheel). When your stock suspension is compressed, the Aeon spring will contact the axle, providing extra cushioning and stability and reducing body roll. If you don't often carry cargo in the bed of the truck, or if when you do it's a consistent load, the Timbren Springs would be my recommendation.

If in addition to towing your 5th wheel, you regularly carry loads of varying weight in your truck bed, an air bag system like the Firstone # F2550 would allow you to adjust the firmness of the suspension according to how much cargo you've got in the truck bed. An available compressor system like # F2158 would allow you to adjust the air pressure in the system with the flick of a switch from the cab of the truck allowing you to adjust the suspension according to how much weight you're carrying. The F2550 is compatible with the frame mounting brackets of a 5th wheel hitch.

I've linked you to some FAQ articles that explain more about the Timbren and Air Bag suspensions. I've also linked to an install video for both systems I recommended plus the compressor system.
