Trailer Hitch, Wiring, and Brake Controller Recommendations for a 2008 Jeep Liberty
Question:
With all the electronic/computer stuff in modern cars, mine is an 08 Jeep Liberty, are there wiring concerns? Your harness is about $100 less than Jeep 7 prong. What else would I not be getting and is there any danger to the electronics? Im assuming the hitch itself would be comparable.

If installed correctly the Tow Ready T-One Wiring Harness for the 2008 Liberty by Jeep, part # 118554, you should not have to worry about damaging the electronics. This converter only uses the vehicles signal inputs as switches, and the actual power output to the trailer comes directly from the vehicle battery. The converter is designed to only draw 5 mili-amps and is designed to protect your vehicles sensitive circuitry. I've included installation directions in a link below.
We offer numerous trailer hitches that are comparable to the factory Jeep hitch.Such as the 2008 Jeep Liberty is the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch for the 2008 Liberty by Jeep, part # 75578. I've included installation instructions in a link below.
To complete your tow setup you may also want a Tekonsha Brake Controller for the 2008 Liberty by Jeep, part # 90885.
If you don't have a towing package you will be starting from scratch for the wiring on your Jeep Liberty and you will need a Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit - 10 Gauge, part # ETBC7. I have included an FAQ below, and a video of how to wire a brake controller.
Once you connect the 4 way connector from the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118455, to the ETBC7 kit you will need to hardwire the remainder of the wires.
The white wire on the ETBC7 will need to be grounded on the frame. The purple auxiliary wire can be run for reverse lights or a reverse lockout for trailer brakes. The blue wire from the will need to be run to the output wire on the brake controller. The black wire will need to be connected to the battery through the included 40 amp breaker.
